Active Engagement and my journey so far...

The title of this course has been sufficiently reflective of my engagement with the course so far. My e-learning journey began at a slow pace as I was a little hesitant and overwhelmed by the world of electronic learning. However, I quickly found out that the best way to engage with the course was to jump head-first into the realm of e-learning.

My first post in regards to the course is in response to the Learning Engagement Theory as proposed by Kearsley and Shneiderman (1999). Learning Engagement Theory is an effective framework to adopt when delivering technology-based teaching and learning. One of the theory’s underpinning principles is the facilitation of effective learning via the promotion of collaboration amongst peers and offering a supportive learning community.

I believe that Kearsley and Shneiderman have essentially summed up the learning design that takes place throughout this course. As a community of online learners/students, we must adopt a different mind set to that of a conventional face-to-face course. In the context of online (flex) learning, we must ensure that we actively engage ourselves with the course content, collaborate with our peers and contribute to the online community in some way that is of benefit to ourselves and to others...for example Assessment Item 1 for this course.

It is very easy when you are a flex student undertaking the course online, to skip much of these necessary components and simply work towards the assessment items. Therefore, I believe that the structure of this course will greatly contribute to everyone’s learning outcomes.

Welcome!

Hi everybody

My name is Hannah Curran and I'm a final year Bachelor Business (Marketing)/Learning Management (Secondary) student. I'm looking forward to this course (although I was supposed to have completed it in my first year) in terms of what it has to offer me in terms of engaging with both standard learning and e-learning tools and technology.

Good luck to you all :)

Han
